Summer in the City

And, if you're on the West Coast, summer has been arriving here in the afternoons. 

Lately, our early mornings have been greeting us with gorgeous gray skies!

Ahhhh glorious June Gloom, my favorite LA "season"

This is when true Angelenos master their art of layering ~

Mornings are gray & sometimes misty, usually chilly.

Afternoons are bright & sunny, warming with each day.

Evenings see the marine layer roll right back in, along with the crisp air

(perfect sleeping weather if you ask me)

So, the general option is to keep a sweater or jacket handy, which usually works out well, until you leave it in your car, the office, etc because you didn't want to carry it along 

& then sure enough in rolls the cold.

I know this cuz I do it all the time!

I've been on a kick lately of wanting my hands free & wanting to be easily mobile, so jackets are the first thing to go, I don't want it weighing me down.

But then I'm the one suffering early in the morning or late at night...

silliness...

This is exactly when Sleeves come in handy!!

I've been playing with my new summer goodies & these black attachable sleeves completed today's look :)

First, I scored this cute lil striped knit dress at Target for only $20!!! I know!!!!

So needless to say, I've been dying to wear it!

Here's play by play on the day's style ;)

Pic 1 ~ cute & casual, but a lil basic for a day of meetings downtown, plus the sun wasn't out yet...

Pic 2 ~ decided to add my black sleeves to keep me warm, because I knew I could pop them off & throw them in my back as I walked from meeting to meeting vs. carrying my blazer which I was guaranteed to ditch within an hour or 2...

If the sun ain't shining, I'll wrap it around my neck ;)

Ch*ARMZ on the STREET STYLE

I spotted these 2 burgeoning fashionistas at a indie designers show in Santa Monica, CA & just fell in love with each of their individual styles.
They walked the show liked they owned it & knew they were dead-on in their style choices - got to love them...looking back at photos of myself at their ages, in the 80s, the pic would have been more "what was I thinking??!?" & less, "um, hmm I know I look cute"

Her choices to accessorize monochromatically gives such an easy breezy feel to this look - perfect for a day out shopping.
Her bright blue suede heels (sadly not captured) popped against the lighter blue palate.

Summer Music festivals & rockin your own style

The Summer Music Festival season is upon us & who doesn't love a day outside listening to your favorite bands?!?!


Figuring out one's look for the day can be kinda tricky - Where's the venue? Is there much shade? In a field? A concrete playground? Day into night?
All of these elements can play into how you chose to express your personal style & what all you need to look chic, all the while maintaining an element of cool comfort.
I am the first to fall for some amazing fashion, but if you're not comfortable, you're not pulling off the look & to me what's the point if your clothes don't look like the skin you were meant to be in?


Its funny when you get a mass of hipsters together how they can all look the same - where does that "individuality" go? The trends become really obvious, but what becomes more obvious to me is those select few who really "know" their style & bring themselves through their clothes.


These ladies below stood out amongst the sea of people at an all day music festival in Pasadena, CA.
Love the mix of prints - one subtle, one bold!
Perfect carryall canvas tote - fits water, sunscreen, camera, phone, whatever else...
Both got it right on the footwear! The girls limping by in heels only wished they were as smart...
And in a world gone "mini", this chambray midi is timeless, the oversize side pockets - fantastic! 
The cinched waist & fitted tank keeps the skirt from overwhelming her - simple yet so chic!
